Oophaga pumilio

The habitat of Oophaga pumilio is the tropical region of america, more precisely the countries Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. Adult animals have a maximum size of 23mm. It’s a very active species which has a high need for movement.

Pictures of animals from the island Colon usually show green animals with dark spots. In our frogs we could determine a color change from green to turquoise blue. Until now, we weren’t able to detect if it’s a matter of light intensity and UV radiation or if it’s associated with mood or hormonal influence.
